HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Steven Beattie scored two goals to lead the Northern Kentucky men's soccer team to the school's first GLVC Championship since 1995 on Sunday afternoon. The No. 2 seed Norse (15-2-3) defeated No. 8 seed UIndy, 3-0, to capture the crown.
Beattie posted the game-winner in the 16th minute on an assist from Paul Andrews. He buried the shot to the left corner from 12 yards out.
The Norse received an insurance goal from Beattie in the 52nd minute as Beattie chipped one over UIndy goalkeepr Justin Roberts from 25 yards out.
NKU closed the scoring on the afternoon with Andrew Montgomery's goal in the 60th minute. The Norse finished the match with a 17-11 shots advantage.
Norse goalkeeper Michael Lavric registered the shutout with four second-half saves.
Roberts had six saves for the Greyhounds in the loss.
