LOCKPORT, Ill. - After opening the 2010 spring campaign undefeated after their first three matches, the Lewis University men's tennis team tested their mettle against regionally-ranked Wayne State on Thursday (Feb. 18) night and came out on the short end, as the visiting Warriors earned the 6-3 non-conference victory over the Flyers at Challenge Fitness.

"We did not come out as strong as we wanted to, but I give Wayne State credit," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "They came out firing in the doubles and stole the momentum. We must have more energy and stronger starts to our matches."

Sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) was the lone Flyer to win two matches against the ninth-ranked Warriors. He teamed up with Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) for the 9-7 win over Eric Szydlowski and Thomas Ducret at No. 2 doubles. Irdoja would later claim the 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Britton Steele at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) picked up the other win for the Flyers, downing Bertrand Moulin, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 20), as the Flyers head to Michigan to square off with Ferris State for a 3 PM (EST) first serve.
