HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Thomas Hay posted a 145 total to finish second individually and lead the Drury men's golf team to a second-place team finish Tuesday as the Doyle Wallace/Henderson State Classic came to a close at the par-72 Hot Springs Country Club.
Drury had a 303 total on Tuesday for a 607 total that left the Panthers just one stroke behind winner Arkansas Tech (304-302 606). Host Henderson State (612) was third in the 11-team field.
The junior Hay fired an even-par 72 to reach his 145 total and finish four strokes behind winner Ben Cuzen of Henderson State, who followed his opening 70 on Monday with a final-round 71 for a 141 total.
Freshman Shawn Vanderwal shot 75-77 152 and tied for 10th for the Panthers, while junior Andrew Funk had a 78 Tuesday for a 153 total that left him in a tie for 13th. Junior Kyle Martin came back strong on Tuesday with a 76 and finished at 157 (T25), while senior Sam Steelman had matching 81s to finish in a tie for 39th at 162.
Seniors Nathan Brunzie and Blake Kelley, competing as individuals for the Panthers, finished in ties for 16th and 19th, respectively. Brunzie had rounds of 78-76 154, while Kelley posted 76-79 155.
The Panthers of coach Kellen Mast return to action March 5-6 in the Lewis Shootout in Leeven, Ariz.
