UIndy Captures First GLVC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship

SOMERS, Wis. - The University of Indianapolis men's track and field team survived a back-and-forth battle with Missouri S&T to capture the school's first GLVC Indoor Track & Field Championship . The Greyhounds held off the defending champs to claim the 2010 title held at Frank J. Petretti Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-Parkside.

UIndy finished with 171.5 points to hold off S&T which posted 167.5 points. The Greyhounds were paced by Frederick Helm who was named the GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Helm won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.36 and also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.27. He earned 20 points for the Greyhounds on Saturday.

GLVC Freshman of the Year Terrell Franklin also helped carry the Hounds by performing well in several events. He won the long jump, finished fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 55-meter dash and was a member of the Greyhounds 4x400 meter relay team which placed second.

UIndy head coach Scott Fangman earned GLVC Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Greyhounds to their first GLVC Men's Indoor Title.

The GLVC Field Athlete of the Year Award was given to S&T's Jared Anders following his first-place heptathlon performance. He also won the pole vault with a mark of 4.81 meters.
