ORLANDO, Fla.- UIndy senior Seth Fair (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) fired a three-under 69 at the final round of the Golfweek Division II Spring Invitational Tuesday. Fair (+2) vaulted 12 spots on the final day to tie for fifth individually while leading the ninth-ranked Greyhounds (+36) to a share of sixth place. The 54-hole, 18-team event was held at Reunion Resort’s Independence Course in Orlando, Fla.
Fair, the 16th-ranked golfer in the D-II Golfstat Cup standings, racked up six birdies on the day and 10 for the tournament. The Brownsburg, Ind. native improved his score everyday, starting with a 76 Sunday, a 73 Monday and finally a 69 Tuesday.
Sophomore Aaron Monson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) (+7) also notched a top 20 finish, tying for 18th in the 90-man field. Monson, who carded three birdies Tuesday, concluded his tournament with back-to-back 73s after opening the event with a 76.
Senior Brad Abel (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) (81-74-77), senior Kyle Miller (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) (76-85-75), and junior Blair Webb (Avon, Ind./Avon) (78-79-84) also made the trip to Orlando, with Miller racking up 16 pars in the final round.
All eighteen of the competing teams are ranked or receiving votes in the most recent GolfWorld/Nike Golf D-II Coaches Poll. Thirteen-ranked Nova Southeastern took the team championship with a 14-over 878, while Lander’s Roberto Nasalli-Rocca (71-72-68) took medalist’s honors at five-under.
The Greyhounds travel even further south for their next gig. The team will spend its 2010 Spring Break in Puerto Rico to compete at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate, held at The Flamboyan Course on Palmas Del Mar beach resort Mar 8-10.
