ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Quincy University baseball team snapped a six game losing streak on Sunday by winning both games of a road double header against Lewis University. Quincy exploded for a 13-3 win in game one and won 6-3 in game two.

Lewis scored first in game one, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. However after being set down in order in the top of the first Quincy scored in the next four innings to take a 12-3 lead. The Hawks started their scoring in the second when Brett Zurliene came in to score on an error. Two batters later Brandon England drove in Greg Van Leer to give Quincy their first lead of the day at 2-1. Lewis grabbed the lead back in the bottom half with two runs but their 3-2 lead was short lived. The Hawks plated three runs on four hits in the third inning with Trent Tagliarini picking up an RBI double and Wade Koester adding a two run double in the inning.

The Hawks broke the game open in the fourth inning with five runs as Tagliarini, Zurliene and Fabian Oechsle all picked up RBI hits in the inning. The Hawks added two more runs in the fifth as Justin Ritchhart scored on a balk and Tagliarini continued his hot hitting driving in his third run of the game. A Matt Scoggins home run in the seventh rounded out the scoring for Quincy in the game. Tagliarini finished the game going two-for-five with three RBI while Zurliene, Oechsle and Dunning each added two hits and England finished three-for-four. Quincy's bats gave them the early lead in game two, scoring two runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Scoggins singled with one out and after a Tagliarini single put runners at first and third, Greg Van Leer put the Hawks on the board with an RBI single. Oechsle continued the scoring with an RBI single to make the score 2-0. Lewis cut the Hawks lead in half in the bottom of the first but Quincy got the run back in the third when Oechsle picked up an RBI sacrifice fly that scored Zurliene. The Hawks extended their lead to 5-1 with a pair of runs in the fifth, scoring again on a sacrifice fly, this time from Zurliene, and a rare steal of home when Greg Van Leer caught the Flyers off-guard.

Lewis scored two runs in the eight to make the score 5-3 but Quincy added insurance in the ninth when Ritchhart, who had doubled to start the inning, scored on an error. Scoggins, Van Leer and Oechsle each added two hits for Quincy while Zurliene picked up the win going eight innings and allowing three runs, one earned, on eight hits.
