EUREKA, MO. – Freshman Shweta Galande of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team fired a second round score of 75 to earn medalist honors at the 2010 Subway Invitational, hosted by Maryville University, Sunday and Monday at Aberdeen Golf Club in Eurkea, Mo.
 
Galande finished with a two-round total of 157 (82-75) to better runner-up Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville by two strokes (79-80-159).
 
Her performance also helped the Tritons to the team title with a 657 team score (334-323), which was 18 strokes better than second place Maryville (339-336-675).
 
NCAA Division III’s Washington University in St. Louis finished third (353-341-694), followed by NAIA’s Lindenwood (364-345-709) and McKendree (389-373-762), Des Moines Area CC (387-380- 767) and Quincy (389-381-770).
 
Also for UMSL, junior Clara Vila (81-81) and senior Amie Koerner (82-80) tied for third place with scores of 162. Senior Leslie Fischer fired a 179 (89-90) to tie for 14th place, while junior Carly Ball shot a 181 (94-87) to take 18th place.
 
Competing individually, freshman Chelsea Kellogg came in 34th place with a 198 (103-95).
 
UMSL will return to the links this weekend, traveling to Perry Park, Ky., for the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational.
 
TRITON TIDBITS: UMSL’s first place finish marked the third time the Tritons have claimed top honors in nine tournaments this season… Freshman Shweta Galande has now earned medalist honors in three tournaments this year, while the Tritons have had a medalist in five tournaments.
