ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team recorded 23 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep at cross-town and Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Maryville Thursday afternoon.
The Tritons earned a 9-4 victory in the opener before pulling out a 9-8 eight inning victory in the nightcap.
UMSL improves its ledger to 18-10 overall and 8-4 in the league, while Maryville, in its first season in the GLVC, slips to 9-20 and 1-11 in the conference.
Seniors Katie Bartlett and Carly Maddock each had four hits to pace the Tritons. Bartlett knocked out her 11th home run of the season, moving into sole possession of first place on the UMSL single season charts. The long-ball was also the 14th of her career, which puts her in a tie for the program’s all-time best with junior JaCee Ellis and student assistant coach Casey Dierkes (06-07).
Senior Megan Brussman added three hits, including two home runs and led the team with four runs scored and four RBIs.
Bartlett followed with three RBIs, including the game-winner in the extra-inning contest, fouling out to left field to bring junior Amanda Seib home from third on the tag.
Sophomore Stephanie Benson (3-3) picked up the game one win in the circle, throwing the complete game.
Freshman Leslie Davis improved to 7-4 with the win in game two, pitching one and one-thirds inning in relief.
UMSL returns to the field on Saturday, hosting Missouri S&T in a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
