SPRINGFIELD , Mo. – With a 5-0 decision over Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon, the 20th-ranked Drury men’s tennis team earned the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis  Championship held at Cooper Tennis Complex . The Panthers topped three East Division teams at the event to stake claim to the title.

Drury edged the 40th-ranked Eagles at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to cap a sweep in doubles and secure an early 3-0 lead in the match.

Ramon Gonda and Ivan Marevic topped Diego Gimenez and Joe Boesing, 8-6, and Jesus Ramon Garcia and Antonio Garcia Santos won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

Lukas Zielen and Alex Kacamkis defeated Nathan Lattimer and Ben Roeser at No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

In singles play, the match was decided as Garcia and Gonda secured victories. Garcia defeated Gimenez 7-5 and 6-1, while Gonda topped Quiroz, 6-4, 6-3.

Drury (15-4) earned a spot in the final with wins over Bellarmine and Lewis. Southern Indiana topped Quincy and Rockhurst to earn its berth in the championship match.

In Saturday’s third-place match, Rockhurst rallied to top Lewis, 5-4.
