Rockhurst Softball Splits with Bellevue on Friday

KANSAS CITY - Freshman right-hander Kayla Hoyer shut down Bellevue on four hits to lead Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over the Bruins in the second game of a doubleheader Friday at RU's Loyola Park.

Hoyer, 6-8, struck out seven and did not allow a walk while throwing her second shutout and seventh complete game of the season.

The Hawks scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jaclyn Johnson. Lindsay Williams singled with one out and advanced to third on a double by Kristen Benes, who collected two of RU's five hits.

In the first game, Bellevue held off a late Rockhurst rally to post a 6-3 win over the Hawks. The Bruins scored three runs in the second and two more in the third. Rockhurst scored all three of runs its in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Williams and Leslie Furdek.

The Hawks, 9-21 and 2-12 in the GLVC, return to conference play at Drury on Sunday at 1 p.m.
