Drury Women's Tennis Falls to Grand Valley State in Midwest Regional

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The 18th ranked Drury women's tennis team suffered a 5-1 loss to the No. 31 Lakers of Grand Valley State at the Midwest Regional played at Cooper Tennis Complex on Saturday.

The No. 1 ranked doubles team in the region Katia Bon and Khrystsina Tryboi of Drury fell 8-5 to the third ranked doubles team of Darylann Trout and Chelsea Johnston.  The Lakers Katelyn Schaffer and Tara Hayes put GVSU up 2-0 with an 8-6 win over Pelagie Gamo and Abbey Sharpe.  Grand Valley State No. 3 doubles team of Jackie Shipman and Allison Fecko posted a 8-6 win over Anna Lusting and Valentine Lambrechts. 

Drury (20-2) and the second seeded team in the Midwest Region found themselves down 3-0 after doubles needing a comeback in singles play if they were to claim the match win.  Katia Bon took a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles to give the Panthers some hope but GVSU won at No. 2 and No. 5 for the 5-1 match victory and a spot in the Sweet 16.  The No. 3 seeded Lakers improved to 22-8 on the season.
