INDIANAPOLIS – Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, Ill. will serve as the host golf course for the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championship. The 33rd annual event will be conducted at Panther Creek in Springfield, Ill. on Apr. 18-19.
The 2011 event marks the first year the GLVC Men’s Golf Championship will be held at Panther Creek after being conducted seven straight years at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind.
Designed by Hale Irwin, Panther Creek features a 7,244-yard par 72 golf course with a course rating of 74.2 and a slope rating of 128. The course was most recently the host of the 2010 LPGA State Farm Classic and will again host the professional event in 2011.
“The GLVC is pleased to be hosting our 2011 men’s golf championship at Panther Creek Country Club in Springfield, IL,” said Jim Naumovich, commissioner of the GLVC. “This course is now home to an LPGA tour event and will make for an excellent venue for the GLVC Championship.”
The GLVC Men’s Golf Championship features a 54-hole format with 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 holes of the tournament completed on Tuesday. The team that claims the 2011 title will take home the GLVC Championship as well as the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Tournament.
Northern Kentucky will enter the 2010-11 season as the defending champion. The Norse won the 2010 GLVC Men’s Golf Championship by finishing with a 72-hole score of 881 at Otter Creek.
Northern Kentucky’s Danny Lewis claimed medalist honors with a three-under-par 213 as a junior and was one of three GLVC golfers to earn All-America accolades last season.
