QUINCY, Ill.-The Quincy University women's soccer team, looking to break out offensively, needed to turn to no one other than senior All-American Becky Fleming. Fleming, who had just one assist in her team's first four games, broke out for her first goal of the season and added two assists in her teams 4-0 win at home over Lindenwood University.
Fleming, who missed last season due to an injury, led the team in scoring in each of her first three seasons and with tonight's game is back in that position once more. Quincy had scored just three goals in four games this year topped that total in one night.
The scoring got started early for Quincy when freshman Jaclyn Mastroianni scored just 8:50 into the game. Fleming set up the goal with a pass from five yards out to Mastroianni who slipped the ball past the Lion keeper for her first collegiate goal.
Despite out shooting Lindenwood 8-2 in the first-half Quincy took just a 1-0 lead into the break. The Lady Hawks came out with fire though in the second half recording two goals in the first 11-minutes of the half. Fleming netted her first goal of the season and her 43rd of her career just over two-minutes in. Erin Conroy, moving up from her defensive position, broke to midfield and crossed the ball to the left side setting up a breakaway for Fleming who buried the shot from six-yards out.
The Lady Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 at the 57-minute mark when Brittany Casey buried a shot from eight-yards out, for her second goal of the season, on passes from Fleming and Aimee Ubriaco. With the four point game Fleming moves into 3rd place on the Lady Hawks career scoring list with 107 total points, moving past Katie Ehlman (1989-91).
The game's scoring finished just as it started, with a freshman forward scoring for the Lady Hawks. This time it was Maddie Torretta who scored her team's fourth and final goal of the game. Torretta received the ball from Annie Sokolich at eight-yards out and scored her first collegiate goal.
Quincy out shot Lindenwood 20-3 in the game, including 7-1 in shots on goal. Lady Hawk keeper Tori Champagne made one save in the contest and it marks Quincy's fourth consecutive shutout and improves their record to 3-1-1 overall. They return to action on Friday when they get back into Great Lakes Valley Conference play as they face Maryville University at 5 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
