GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-The Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Cornerstone University on Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
SJC (0-2-1) scored the opening goal of the match as Allie Reiners (So., Batesville, Ind./East Central) collected herself to beat CU (2-3) keeper Alyssa Morrow in the 14th minute. Two minutes later the Golden Eagles tied the match with an Amanda Van Laar goal. The respective defenses, aided by the gusting winds slowed down the offense for the remainder of the half.
The contest remained tied 1-1 through intermission, but in the 49th minute the Golden Eagles took the lead and later added an insurance goal in the 76th minute to pick-up the victory. MacKenzie Calvert (Fr., Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) got the start in goal and played the full 90 minutes making six saves.
The Pumas will host the University of Southern Indiana on Friday evening. The match at Joseph L. Minielli Memorial Field is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. CDT.
