Neutzling goal gives UMSL 1-0 win over UIndy

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Kaylee Netuzling netted the game winner just 61 seconds into overtime to give the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Indianapolis Tuesday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Netuzling cut through a swarm of defenders and took the game-winning shot from the left wing of the box. Greyhounds keeper Shae Morris got a finger on it, but the ball sailed overhead into the back of the net for the score at the 91:01 mark. Senior Jesa Jenkins assisted on the play.
With the win, UMSL improves to 8-6 overall, including 7-5 in the GLVC, while moving its win streak to three games. The eight wins also better last season’s win total of seven. Indianapolis slips to 9-6 and 7-5 in the league.
The Tritons out-shot UIndy 11-9 and held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Neutzling and senior Kelly Muesenfechter each took three shots for UMSL, placing two on target, while sophomore keeper Kailtyn Smugala recorded five saves in the between the posts.
UMSL returns to action Friday, traveling to Northern Kentucky in the start of a three-game road swing that will wrap up the regular season.
