INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana senior Danielle LaGrange (Santa Claus, Ind./Heritage Hills/Indiana) has been named the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Year. LaGrange headlines the 10-member All-GLVC Volleyball First Team as announced by the league on Thursday.
Joining LaGrange on the first team are Indianapolis’ Kristina Kerrigan and Kristina Hefferan, Missouri S&T’s Erin Bekebrede, Jennifer Costello and Jocelyn DeMotte, Northern Kentucky’s Kim Nemcek and Jenna Schreiver, Quincy’s Briann Joslin and Rockhurst’s Maggie McGovern.
LaGrange hit at a .337 clip and averaged 3.82 kills per set to help Southern Indiana to a 20-9 overall record and 14-4 conference record. She added 0.85 digs per set during the regular season and posted 4.55 points per set.
Against conference competition, LaGrange averaged 3.59 kills per set and hit .303. She finished the conference schedule second in the league with 4.36 points per set.
Indianapolis freshman Meghan Binkerd has been named the 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year. Binkerd helped the Greyhounds to a share of the GLVC East Division title and to the top seed for the GLVC Tournament with a 15-3 league mark. She paced UIndy to a .270 hitting percentage against conference opponents, ranking the Greyhounds second in the league. Binkerd averaged 10.75 assists in the GLVC and ranked fourth overall with 10.69 assists per set.
Missouri S&T head coach Jason Holt has been tabbed by his peers as the 2011 GLVC Coach of the Year. Holt guided the Miners to the GLVC West Division title with a 15-3 conference mark. The Miners, 23-8 overall, earned the No. 3 seed for the GLVC Tournament and will face No. 6 seed Missouri-St. Louis in the first round of the event on Friday afternoon.
In addition, the GLVC has announced a 10-member All-GLVC Second Team and 10-member All-GLVC Third Team.
