MIDLAND, Mich. – Missouri-St. Louis dropped its season opener on Friday night in a 64-53 decision against Lake Superior State in a neutral site contest. The Tritons (0-1) were paced by Joshua McCoy who finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and seven steals in the loss. Troy Long chipped in 11 points for the Tritons who shot 38.5 percent from the field. UMSL was unable to shoot for high percentage from beyond the arc, finishing 4-for-22 (.182) on the night. The Tritons will conclude the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge held at Northwood with a Saturday matchup with the host.
Northwood 74, Illinois Springfield 70 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
MIDLAND, Mich. – Michael Fakuade registered a double-double on Friday night with a team-high 20 points and 15 rebounds, but UIS was unable to pull out a victory, falling to host Northwood 74-70. The Prairie Stars (0-1) also received 15 points from Kyle Gupton and Jermai Love-Roberts contributed 11 points and five rebounds. USI shot 33.3 percent from the field and outbrebounded Northwood, 44-42. Northwood shot 51.7 percent from the field to overcome 17 turnovers and rallied from a four-point deficit in the final minute. UIS will take on Lake Superior State on Saturday.
Newman 83, Missouri S&T 61 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
WICHITA, Kan. – The Missouri S&T men’s basketball team fell at Newman, 83-61, on Friday night in a non-conference contest. The Miners (0-1) struggled from long-range in the loss, converting just 1 of 17 three-point field goal attempts. Tommy Peclzynski led S&T with 12 points and eight rebounds and Bryce Foster posted a team-high 13 points. The Miners will face West Texas A&M on Saturday.
