KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The defending NCAA Division II Champion Norse won their first NCAA Regional match Friday, besting Northwood 2-0 at Rockhurst.

Northern Kentucky (14-4-0) went up 1-0 in just the 11th minute, with Michael Bartlett scoring on a 20-yard shot into the upper left of the frame off of a Cian McDonald corner kick. The eventual gamewinner was good for Bartlett's fifth goal of the year.

Nicholas Chiarot added the Norse insurance score in the 76th minute, stealing the ball and chipping it into the net over the Timberwolves' keeper from about 25 yards out.

The Norse out-shot Northwood 17-8 in the match, and also took seven corner kicks to the Timberwolves (9-5-4) one in the contest. Matt Renouf took the loss in net for Northwood, maing six saves in facing 16 shots on the day. Ben Dorn took the victory for the Norse, making two saves in facing eight shots to preserve the shutout.

Northern Kentucky advances to its fifth NCAA Midwest Regional championship in school history with the win, where it will take on Rockhurst for the title.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.- The host Rockhurst Hawks took a 1-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Regional over Saginaw Valley State Friday evening.

Rockhurst (16-2-2) got its lone goal from Nick McDonald in the 56th minute. McDonald scored on an eight-yard shot into the lower left of the frame, on an assist from Mark Magee. The score was good for McDonald's 10th of the year.

The Hawks out-shot the visiting Cardinals (12-5-3) 22-6 on the night, while Saginaw Valley State took eight corner kicks to Rockhurst's seven.

Rockhurst advances to the Midwest Regional Championship, which it will host, against Northern Kentucky. The match will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday from Kansas City.
