No. 16 Wisconsin-Parkside 72, Tampa 57 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

TAMPA – Brittany Beyer exploded for 37 points on Friday night to guide Wisconsin-Parkside to a 72-57 win at Tampa. The 16th-ranked Rangers (1-0) led by one at the break, 33-32, but started the second half on a n 11-2 run to surge into the lead. Byer led all scorers by shooting 15-for-19 from the field and she added seven rebounds. Senior Jadee Rooney notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and the Rangers finished the game shooting 56.5 percent from the field. The Rangers will complete the weekend in Florida with a game against Rollins on Saturday.

Oral Roberts 80, Drury 53 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

TULSA, Okla. – The Drury women’s basketball team dropped its season opener at Division I Oral Roberts on Friday afternoon, 80-53. The Panther s (0-1) shot 35.2 percent from the file and were able to convert just 6-of-23 three-point efforts in the contest. Four of the six three-pointers were canned by Katie Pritchard who finished with 15 points on the day and was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Oral Roberts was led by Kevi Luper’s game-high 27 points. Drury will return to action at Southwest Baptist.

Northwood 71, Illinois Springfield 62 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

MIDLAND, Mich. – Alyssa Palmer tallied a team-high 21 points and Ashley Coffey posted a double-double for Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon but it was not enough to pull at a win as the Prairie Stars fell at Northwood in a regional contest, 71-62. Palmer was 8-for-18 from the field and added four rebounds, three steals and three assists for UIS. Coffey finished with 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.  UIS shot 35.2 percent from the field and lost the rebound battle 48-39. UIS (0-1) will face another GLIAC foe in Saturday when it squares off with Lake Superior State.

St. Edward’s 88, Missouri-St. Louis 79 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

AUSTIN, Texas – Missouri-St. Louis fell in its first game of the season on Friday night, losing to host St. Edward’s 88-79. The Tritons (0-1) were guided by three players in double figures in the loss. Alexis Lawrence came off the bench to post a team-high 23 points in just 16 minutes as she buried 5-of-9 three-point attempts. Forward Devonna Smith added 21 points and eight rebounds and Devean Omohundro added 13 points. UMSL outrebounded its host 39-30 but turned the ball over 32 times. The Tritons will face Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Maryville 87, Westminster 59 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

ST. LOUIS – Abby Duethman led five players in double figures on Friday night in leading Maryville to a convincing 87-59 win over visiting Westminster. Duethman totaled 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals. JoAnn Thompson added 14 points and Kate Childs chipped in 12 points. Rita Flynn also reached double figures with 10 points and Samantha Robison came off the bench to post 10 points. Maryville (1-0) outscored the visitors in the paint 46-22 and held a 44-37 advantage on the boards. The Saints will next host Eureka on Sunday.

Bellarmine 69, McKendree 67 – BOX SCORE | RECAP

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine rallied to top visiting McKendree in a non-conference women’s basketball match on Friday night. The Knights, who trailed by 11 at halftime, were led in their comeback effort by Kylie Brady who totaled a game-high 26 points. She was 7-for-12 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line on the night. Allison Matheis added 10 points for the Knights who shot 47.6 percent from the field on the night. McKendree (0-1), who led by as many as 13 points early in the second half, was led by Caty Ponse who scored 17 points before fouling out.
