TAMPA – No. 16 Wisconsin-Parkside struggled from the field in the first half on Saturday afternoon and couldn’t recover from a 31-17 halftime deficit in a 66-58 loss to Rollins. The Rangers (1-1) shot 6-of-21 (.286) from the field in the first half and were 0-for-6 from beyond the arc. They shot 47.2 percent from the field in the second half but could overcome the early deficit. Amy Selk led UW-Parkside with a game-high 20 points. Brittany Beyer netted 16 points and eight rebounds and Jadee Rooney added 13 points. The Rangers will next host Saginaw Valley State on Friday.
AUSTIN, Texas – Four Missouri-St. Louis players reached double figures and the Tritons shot 55.8 percent from the field to take an 85-76 win over SE Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons jumped out to a 45-29 halftime advantage by converting 19-of-29 (.655) field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes, including 6-of-10 three-point attempts. Caitlyn Moody led the way for the Tritons with 17 points and six rebounds. Teammate Kelly Carter added 16 points and Devonna Smith notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. UMSL (1-1) will return to action against visiting McKendree on Friday.
CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Indianapolis fell in its season-opener on Saturday afternoon at California (Pa.), 64-57. The Greyhounds (0-1) outrebounded the host, 43-36, but suffered 24 turnovers in the loss. UIndy was led by Nickole Gonser who posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Greyhounds shot 39.3 percent from the field and were 2-of-13 (.154) from behind the arc. UIndy will next face Ashland or Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon.
MIDLAND, Mich. – Illinois Springfield evened their early season record on the year at 1-1 with a 73-64 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Stars were led by Ashley Coffey who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Bailey Beale led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting and teammate Megan Bergerud added 21 points. UIS will next host Lincoln on Friday.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Quincy’s women’s basketball team opened the 2011 season with a 91-68 win at Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon. Kassidy Shuman led the way for Quincy with a game-high 21 points. Lindsay Henke added 15 points and six rebounds and Karlee Gengenbacher contributed 11 points and six rebounds for the Lady Hawks in the win. Quincy (1-0) forced Missouri Western into 22 turnovers and outrebounded the Griffons, 39-33. Quincy will next host Arkansas-Ft. Smith on Thursday.
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Lewis women’s basketball team fell in its season opener on Saturday at Ferris State, 81-72. The Flyers (0-1) were unable to overcome a slow start as they trailed 45-29 at the break. Labrenthia Murdock led Lewis with 19 points and Madeline Kish added 16 points in the loss. Lewis will return to action on Monday against visiting McKendree.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southern Indiana defeated Saginaw Valley State on Saturday afternoon in an in-region contest 76-62. Cootie Leeburg tallied 17 points in the win to lead the way for the Eagles who move to 1-0 on the season. Kristin Raker chipped in 11 points for USI and Brooke Valentine contributed 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench. The Eagles will next host Principia on Tuesday.
LIBERTY, Mo. – William Jewell opened the 2011-12 campaign with a 71-58 win over visiting Buena Vista on Saturday. The Cardinals (1-0) were led by Chelsea Meeks who poured in a game-high 25 points. Cassy Nicolay added 13 points and seven rebounds and Aerial Smith and Kaitlyn Wood each posted 10 points and eight rebounds. William Jewell will next face Northwest Missouri State on Thursday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine rallied for a 102-93 win over visiting Glenville State on Saturday. The Knights (2-0) completed a weekend sweep behind 21 points and nine rebounds from Kylie Brady. All five starters for Bellarmine reached double figures on the night, with Therese Montano posting 14 points and Allison Osen recording a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bellarmine will next host Central State on Tuesday night.
