Indianapolis Wins Thrilling GLVC Volleyball Championship Match in Five Sets

INDIANAPOLIS – The 21st-ranked Indianapolis volleyball team survived a thrilling GLVC Championship match on Sunday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center, defeating visiting Lewis 18-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 23-21.

With the victory, the Greyhounds (22-7) secured their second GLVC title in the past three season and locked up the league’s automatic qualifying berth to the NCAA D-II Tournament.

Courtney Anglemyer led UIndy in a match that featured 49 ties and 19 lead changes by posting  a team-high 27 kills and a .511 hitting percentage.

Kourtney Crawford added 13 kills and Kristina Hefferan posted 11 kills and 19 digs in the victory.

UIndy’s setter Meghan Binkerd tallied 58 assists and a team-high 28 digs.

Lewis (25-6), the 17th-ranked team in the country, was guided by Hannah Koeneman who tallied a match-high 31 kills and finished with a .314 hitting percentage.

The Flyers, who limited UIndy to a .164 hitting percentage, received 34 digs from Amy Choi and 11 blocks from Danielle Mount.

Mount finished with a double-double as she also collected 13 kills. Jen Krumwiede and Colleen Mitros also each recorded a double-double. Krumwiede had 16 kills and 17 digs and Mitros finished with 12 kills and 19 digs.

Leigh Barea, the Flyers’ setter tallied a match-high 64 assists and finished with 16 digs.

The Greyhounds and Flyers were meeting for the fifth consecutive year in the GLVC Volleyball Tournament finale. Lewis had taken three of the previous four meetings including the 2010 crown in Romeoville.

Both teams will now await the NCAA Midwest Regional selections.
