Freshman Sanayika Shields scored a career-high 11 points, leading Drury to a 59-49 victory over Lindenwood in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
Senior Kassie Walker added 10 points for the Lady Panthers (3-1), who overcame 27 turnovers to defeat a Lindenwood transitioning this year from the NAIA to the NCAA-II level.
The Lady Lions, who will be members of the MIAA in 2012-13, fell to 3-3. They committed 24 turnovers and were held to 31-percent shooting from the field (18 of 58) by the DU defense, which held an opponent below 53 points for the third consecutive game.
"We'll take the win ... I'm just really disappointed in how we're executing right now on offense," Drury coach Steve Harold said. "As good as our defense is, our offense is equally as poor. We have got to do the basic fundamentals more consistently on the offensive end."
The Lady Panthers led 25-16 at the half after hitting just 8 of 23 shots (35 percent), but holding the Lady Lions to 7 for 27 shooting (26 percent).
Lindenwood closed to within seven (42-35) with just over 10 minutes left, but a Casey Carroll layup and a bucket from Walker pushed the lead back to double-figures, and the Lady Lions would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Drury finished 18 of 22 at the free-throw line (82 percent) to overcome a 1-for-11 night from 3-point range.
The Lady Panthers also won the boards battle 44-35, including a 25-17 edge in the second half. Sophomore Kylie Williamson came off the bench to lead DU with seven rebounds, while Bethanie Funderburk had five rebounds and Sara Jane Plemmons and Shields snagged four each.
Sarah Schnieders had 13 points and Marlissa Lehnig added 10 points to lead Lindenwood.
The Lady Panthers open Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Thursday, taking on Missouri-St. Louis in a 5:45 p.m. tipoff at the O'Reilly Center. The DU and UMSL men will square off at approximately 8.
