GLVC Announces All-GLVC Men's Soccer Team

INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University senior forward Grant Ellison (O’Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and Rockhurst junior goalkeeper Ryan Bass (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) is the 2011 GLVC Defensive Player of the Year. The duo headlines the 11-member All-GLVC First Team as selected by the league’s 16 head coaches.  

Joining Ellison and Bass on the All-GLVC First Team are Indianapolis’ Bobby Adkins, Missouri S&T’s Spencer Brinkmeyer, Missouri-St. Louis’ Almin Sabotic, Northern Kentucky’s Tommy Barrick and Rockhurst’s Mark Magee, Nick McDonald, Paolo Scoppola, Lucas De Rossi and Kyle Miller.

Ellison has led the Hawks to an 11-5-2 overall record and to a fourth-place finish in the GLVC regular season standings. He has tallied 34 points on the year with 16 goals and a pair of assists. Included in his league-best goal total are six game-winning goals which also place Ellison atop the league rankings.

Bass led Rockhurst to the GLVC regular season title by allowing just six goals through 17 matches. He owns a .360 goals against average and has posted an .891 save percentage. Bass has 49 saves and has notched a 14-2-1 record which includes a league-best 11 shutouts.

De Rossi has been named the 2011 GLVC Freshman of the Year. One of six Rockhurst players on the All-GLVC First Team, De Rossi tallied 10 points on the year with three goals and four assists from his midfielder position. He finished with two game-winning goals in his first year with Rockhurst.

Rockhurst head coach Tony Tocco has been tabbed the GLVC Coach of the Year after guiding the Hawks to the regular season crown. Rockhurst (15-2-1) posted a 12-2-1 conference mark and has advanced to the semifinals of the GLVC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Tocco’s club has outscored its opponents 41-6 on the year and has allowed just one goal after the first half this season.  

In addition to the first-team selections, the GLVC has also announced an 11-member All-GLVC Second Team and 11-member All-GLVC Third Team.
