#2 Bellarmine 1, #4 Quincy 1 (2OT) BU takes title 2-1 on PKs - BOX SCORE | RECAP
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Bellarmine took the 2011 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship in a hard-fought, 1-1 match that came down to a penalty kick shootout, which the Knights won 2-1.
Neither team could get on the board in the first half, with Bellarmine taking six shots and Quincy (15-4-2) getting off three shots.
#21 Bellarmine (15-2-3), in its second GLVC Championship match appearance, broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute, with Lauren Boyd's fifth goal of the season. Boyd scored from about 20 yards out straight into the net on an assist from Lauren Triplett to put the Knights up 1-0.
The Lady Hawks, in their third appearance in the GLVC Championship game, tied the match in the 71st minute on Sam Andert's first goal of the season. Andert's score was a header off of a free kick by Megan Wingenbach.
In the second half, both teams took six shots apiece, and sent the match to overtime.
In the first overtime, neither team could net a goal, with the Hawks taking two shots to the Knights' one. The second overtime was also scoreless, with neither team getting off a shot in the final 10 minutes of the match.
In the shootout round, the Knights took their program's first GLVC Women's Soccer Championship via a 2-1 decision in the shootout. Bellarmine's Lauren Boyd and Emily Hollander both made their shots to give the Knights the title.
Bellarmine took 13 total shots in the match to Quincy's 11. The Lady Hawks put six of their shots on goal to the Knights three. Jodi Chapie made two saves in the Quincy net, while Amy Kunowski made five saves on the day for Bellarmine.
