Indianapolis 99, #1 Bellarmine 94 (OT) – BOX SCORE | RECAP
INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis upset top-ranked and unbeaten Bellarmine in overtime on Thursday night, 99-94, in a GLVC men’s basketball contest at Nicoson Hall. The Greyhounds (5-1, 1-0 GLVC) tied the contest with three seconds to play in regulation on a free throw by Mikel Brigham and then secured the win in overtime by outscoring Bellarmine 15-10 in the extra session. Brigham tipped in a basket with 1:10 to play in overtime and Adrian Moss hit four free throws for the Greyhounds in the final minute to secure the win. Moss finished with a team-high 29 points and Reece Cheatham finished with 24 points. Bellarmine (5-1, 0-1) was paced by Jeremy Kendle who had a game-high 31 points and Braydon Hobbs who notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 assists. Bellarmine will travel to Saint Joseph’s on Saturday and UIndy will host Northern Kentucky.
#5 Southern Indiana 61, Lewis 59 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Taylor Wischmeier put home the game-winning bucket on Thursday night with 34 seconds to play to lift No. 5 Southern Indiana to a 61-59 win over host Lewis in GLVC men’s basketball action. Wischmeier finished with 10 points and seven rebounds on the night as USI moved to 5-0 overall and to 1-0 in league play. Brandon Hogg led the Eagles with 20 points and Lawrence Thomas added 18 points. Lewis (4-1, 0-1) was led by Matt Toth who had 16 points. USI will travel to Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, while Lewis hosts No. 9 Kentucky Wesleyan.
#9 Kentucky Wesleyan 81, Wisconsin-Parkside 78 (OT) – BOX SCORE | RECAP
SOMERS, Wis. – Anthony Young canned a three-pointer with three seconds to play in regulation to tie the game and No. 9 Kentucky Wesleyan completed a comeback effort at Wisconsin-Parkside by outlasting the Rangers in overtime, 81-78. Cardell McFarland, who canned a go-ahead three-pointer in the overtime session, finished with 24 points for the Panthers who move to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the GLVC. Young finished with 11 points and Brandon Johnson collected 19 points for KWC. UW-Parkside (4-2, 0-1) was guided by Ziggy Riauka who had 15 points. The Panthers will head to Lewis on Saturday and UW-Parkside will host No. 5 Southern Indiana.
Maryville 66, Missouri S&T 62 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
ROLLA, Mo. – The Maryville’s men’s basketball team opened the conference season with a 66-62 win at Missouri S&T on Thursday night. The Saints (4-0) had four players in double figures including Gerald Shaw who finished 13 points. Corey Washburn added 12 points for Maryville who remains unbeaten on the year and moves to 1-0 in league play. S&T (1-6, 0-1 GLVC) was led by Tommy Pelczynski who had 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Maryville will head to Drury on Saturday, while S&T will welcome Missouri-St. Louis.
William Jewell 78, Quincy 70 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
LIBERTY, Mo. – In the team’s first GLVC men’s basketball contest, William Jewell knocked off visiting Quincy on Thursday night, 78-70. The Cardinals (3-2, 1-0) shot 58.5 percent from the field and hit eight second-half three-point field goals to pull away with the win. William Jewell was led by Chris Uz who had a game-high 19 points and Dillon Deck who added 16 points off the bench by converting all eight field goal attempts. Quincy (4-1, 0-1) lost for the first time this season despite a double-double from Justin Brock who had 14 points and 10 rebounds. William Jewell will host UIS on Saturday and Quincy is slated to travel to Rockhurst.
Rockhurst 72, Illinois Springfield 69 (OT) – BOX SCORE | RECAP
KANSAS CITY – In a tightly contested affair featuring no lead greater than four in the second half, Rockhurst outlasted visiting Illinois Springfield in overtime on Thursday night in men’s basketball action, 72-69. Rockhurst (3-3, 1-0), which evened its overall record with its third straight win, was led by Kareem Amedu who finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Brandon McCann added 14 points and James Robinson chipped in 12 points off the bench for the Hawks. UIS (1-5, 0-1) was led by Michael Fakuade who had 16 points. Rockhurst will host Quincy on Saturday and UIS will travel to Willilam Jewell.
Northern Kentucky 82, Saint Joseph’s 70 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
RENSSELAER, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky men’s basketball team opened the conference season on Thursday night with an 82-70 road win at Saint Joseph’s. The Norse (5-0, 1-0) were guided by Eshaunte Jones who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Ethan Faulkner and Chad Jackson each added 15 points for the Norse who will return to action on Saturday at Indianapolis. Saint Joseph’s (3-2, 0-1) was led by Dayvon who exploded for a game-high 34 points. The Pumas will host top-ranked Bellarmine on Saturday.
Missouri-St. Louis 78, Drury 61 – BOX SCORE | RECAP
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri-St. Louis knocked off host Drury in the GLVC men’s basketball opener for both teams. The Tritons (3-3, 1-0) were led by Troy Long who poured in 29 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including a 6-of-8 effort from behind the three-point line. Long also added six steals and five assists in the win. Charlie Woods added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Tritons who will next travel to Missouri S&T on Saturday. Drury (3-3, 0-1) was paced by Alex Hall who finished with 18 points. Drury will host Maryville on Saturday.
