Northeastern State 64, Quincy 49 - BOX SCORE | RECAP
AUSTIN-The Quincy women’s basketball team traveled to Austin, Texas to compete at a neutral site against Northeastern State on Friday. The Hawks dropped their first contest of the St. Edward’s New Year Classic 64-49 to Northeastern. This was the first competition for the Quincy squad since December 10. Despite 35.4 percent shooting, the Hawks had three players reach double digits in scoring. They were led by Daryle Goldie who posted 14 points. Kassidy Shuman and Linsay Henke added 11 points each for the Hawks. The Quincy squad (6-3) will stay in Austin overnight and prepare for a matchup with St. Edward’s tomorrow afternoon.
Findlay, Ohio- The Missouri S&T women’s basketball team suffered their second loss of the season on Friday afternoon. The loss came at the hands of regional opponent Northwood. The Miners fell 71-53. Despite the loss, the team had three players reach double figures in points. Julie Meyer led the team with 12 points, while Toni Knar posted 11 buckets and Hailee Parks added 10 points to the Miner total. The Miners (8-2) will look to get back on track against Southern Indiana on January 5.
Big Rapids, Mich.- The Indianapolis women’s basketball team resumed their season on the road against Ferris State on Friday where they picked up a regional win 65-55. Kristin Turner put on a solid performance as she contributed a career-high 25 points including five buckets from behind the arc. She also tallied 6 steals in the Greyhound win. The team forced 21 total turnovers from Ferris State to capture the ten point victory. The Indianapolis squad (8-2) will look to continue their run with a conference win against Illinois Springfield on January 5.
Lansing, Mich.- The Lewis Flyers dropped a regional contest against No. 7 ranked Michigan Tech 70-52 on Friday afternoon. The team shot 16-for-59 from the field and was led by Lauren Mead and Lebrenthia Murdock who tallied 10 points each. The Flyers (3-7) will next head to St. Louis for a pair of conference matchups against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis on January 5 and 7 respectively.
DETROIT- The Southern Indiana women’s basketball team faced off against regional opponent Wayne State on Friday. The Eagles trailed by 23 at the half and could not recover from the deficit in the second. The Eagles shot 35 percent from the field to Wayne State’s 42 percent shooting. Kristin Raker led the way for the Southern Indiana team scoring 14 points and tallying three rebounds while Mary O’Keefe and Anna Hackert added ten points each. The Eagles (6-4) will host Missouri S&T on January 5.
SPRINGFIELD- The Illinois Springfield women’s basketball team squeezed past future GLVC member McKendree University in Friday night hoops 76-71. Although McKendree outshot the Prairie Stars 46.6 percent to 34.2 percent, the Illinois Springfield squad went 8-for-20 from behind the arc and forced 18 turnovers from the McKendree squad to take the five point edge. Alyssa Palmer and Megan Bergerud each tallied 17 points to lead the team on the night. The Prairie Stars (6-4) will continue with conference action when they host Indianapolis on January 5.
Highland Heights, Ky.- The Northern Kentucky women’s basketball squad posted a win over regional Hillsdale 51-41 on Friday evening. The Norse shot 46.2 percent from the field to Hillsdale’s 25 percent. Ellen Holton led the Norse with 13 points. She also contributed seven rebounds on the night. The Northern Kentucky squad moves to 8-2 on the year and will look forward to a conference match up with William Jewell on January 5.
