Lewis Softball Opens 2011 Campaing with Two Wins

LAS VEGAS - The Lewis softball team opened the 2011 sesaon with a pair of victories at the Desert Stinger Softball Tournament hosted by Montana State-Billings at Majestic Park on Friday. The Flyers topped Western New Mexico, 8-7, and took down Northwest Nazarene in the nightcap, 8-6.

In the opener, senior first baseman Stephanie Harmon went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and belted a two-run home run. Sophomore designated player Alexis Munaco was also 3-for-4 in the game with a RBI.

Amy Christopher collected the win in relief as she pitched two innings and allowed just one run and two hits.

Against Northwest Nazarene, Harmon and Munaco again led the offensive attack with 2-for-3 efforts at the plate. Each scored a run as well as the Flyers jumped to a 6-0 run after the top of the first inning.

They led 7-4 after two, providing pitcher Karissa Habel enough run support to go the distance in collecting her first win of the season. She allowed four earned and struck out six in the win.

The Flyers (2-0) will return to action on Saturday with games against the Academy of Art and a regional match-up with Upper Iowa.
