The Quincy University softball team split a non-conference double header at home against Lindenwood University winning game one 6-0 but falling 5-1 in game two.

Quincy took advantage of their chances in game one, scoring six runs on just seven hits and stranding just four runners. Both teams went down in order in the first inning and Lady Hawk pitcher Torie Bunzell continued her mastery by retiring all three batters she faced in the second inning. Quincy broke the scoreless game with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Carla Passini started things with a one out single and Marissa Curry then came on to pinch-run. Curry swiped second and moved to third on the errant throw. She would then score on a RBI ground out by Lauren Francis.

The Lions picked up their first and only hit of the game with two outs in the third inning, a single to centerfield. Quincy broke the game open in the bottom of the third as Adriana Longobardi reached on an error to start the inning. Rachel Trokey moved Longobardi over with a sacrifice and Monica Gray drove in a run with a triple down the right field line. Cristina Hughes then reached on a bunt single allowing Gray to score on an errant throw. Ashleigh Roscetti followed with a single and Erin Gregory made the score 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.

Quincy tacked on another run in the fifth inning when Lauren Francis, who had led the inning off with a double, scored on an error. Quincy plated the final run of the game in the fifth as Hughes started the inning with a double and would later score on a sacrifice fly by Francis.

Cristina Hughes and Carla Passini led the Lady Hawk offense with two hits each while Torie Bunzell recorded her 12th win of the season going seven innings and recording the shutout while allowing one hit and striking out 16.

Game two was not as kind to the Lady Hawks as Lindenwood quickly grabbed the lead with two runs in the top of the first on a two run home run. The Lions added two more runs in the third inning as the Lady Hawk offense was slow out of the gates picking up just one hit in the first three innings. The Lady Hawks finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Lauren Francis singled in Cristina Hughes who had singled with one out. But again the Lady Hawk offense would finish the game quietly with just two hits in the final three innings of play.

The Lady Hawks were out hit 9-5 in the game and stranded five base runners as Lauren Francis suffered the loss. Cristina Hughes again led the Lady Hawk offense going 2-for-3 while Tiffany Brakeville also added a pair of hits. Quincy is now 16-9 on the season and returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a double header at home against Rockhurst University on Saturday at 12 p.m.
