GLVC Baseball Tournament Site
SAUGET, IL. - Through six games of the 2011 GLVC Baseball Tournament, the lower seeded teams have advanced to the second day of action being held at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. and UMSL Field in St. Louis. The top four seeds advanced through the winners bracket with the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds staving off elimination in the evening contests.
Top-seeded Southern Indiana needed 13 innings to pull out a 5-4 victory over Rockhurst on Thursday afternoon. Ryan Kaczmarski singled home the game winner in the 13th after Justin Blinn hit a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force the extra frames.
Quincy, the No. 4 seed, will face Southern Indiana in Friday afternoon's Noon contest after the Hawks defeated No. 5 seed Lewis in the day's first contest, 5-2.
Lewis bounced back in the elimination contest with a 6-1 win over Rockhurst.
In the second-half of the bracket, No. 3 Northern Kentucky held off No. 6 seed Drury in the first contest, 7-3 and No. 2 seed Missouri S&T edged No. 7 seed Bellarmine, 7-2.
Drury rallied from an early 6-1 deficit in the elimination game against Bellarmine to earn a 13-12 victory in the nightcap. The Panthers will now face the loser of tomorrow's contest between Northern Kentucky and Missouri S&T. The Norse and Miners will meet at 11 a.m. at UMSL Field.
