SAUGET, Ill. - Northern Kentucky and Quincy earned the right to compete in the 2011 GLVC Baseball Tournament Championship by winning their respective brackets on Saturday. The two teams will compete for the league title and the GLVC's automatic qualifying berth to the NCAA Tournament in Sunday's championship game at 9 a.m. at GCS Ballpark.
The Norse advanced to Sunday's championship game by virtue of a 7-4 win over Drury in Saturday's second contest. Northern Kentucky (34-18) jumped on top of the Panthers by posting four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by third baseman Brandon Wood.
Quincy (34-18), after dropping its first game of the day to Southern Indiana by a 7-5 count, jumped on top of the Eagles in the late game on Saturday night to seal their spot in the final. The Hawks built an 8-2 lead and held off a late rally by Southern Indiana, 8-7.
