SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Drury and Rockhurst men's tennis teams each won their respective matches on Monday morning to earn the right to advance to the NCAA Division II Round of 16 next Wednesday in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Drury (16-3) defeated Southern Indiana 5-1 behind a 3-0 effort in doubles competition and singles victories by Roman Gonda at No. 2 over Juan Quiroz, 6-1, 6-1, and Andy Blair at No. 1 over Diego Gimenez, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
Rockhurst (21-3) topped Northwood on Monday, 5-3, to earn the school's first trip to the Round of 16. The Hawks won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage. John Lazenby recorded a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, Victor Klintcharov notched a victory at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Zach Newell won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Drury will face St. Edward's in the Round of 16, while Rockhurst will meet the winner of the Nebraska-Kearney and Montana State-Billings match.
