Lewis and Quincy to meet in 2011 GLVC Softball Tournament championship game

EAST PEORIA, Ill.- Saturday's action determined that the 2011 GLVC Softball Tournament's championship game will be between No. 2 seed Lewis and No. 5 seed Quincy Sunday at noon at EastSide Centre.

The Lady Hawks will be making their first trip to the GLVC championship game, while Lewis will make its third straight with this year's appearance.

Torie Bunzell (28-10) led Quincy to the championship game with three stellar performances on the day, totaling more than 350 total pitches in earning three wins on the day.

Play opened with No. 8 seed Rockhurst besting No. 4 seed UIndy, 4-3. The Greyhounds came into the bottom of the seventh inning down 4-1, but scored three runs to make things interesting.

In the other 11:00 a.m. matchup, No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky fell 2-0 to Quincy behind Bunzell's 14th shutout victory of the season.

The Lady Hawks turned around and took a 4-3 win over Rockhurst in dramatic fashion, winning the ballgame after being down to their last strike of the tournament. Quincy entered the bottom of the seventh down 3-2, and scored two runs with two outs to take the win and advance on in the bracket.
 
The first top-of-the-bracket contests featured top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis and Lewis, and for the third time on the day, the lower seed prevailed as Lewis took the 7-0 win. Stephanie Harmon and Mary Giancarlo powered the Flyers to victory, posting three RBIs apiece in the win.

The final contest of the day saw Bunzell take to the circle for the third time on the day, and saw a lower seed win for the fourth time. The Lady Hawks won 3-1 over Missouri-St. Louis to earn their title-game trip.

First pitch between Lewis and Quincy in the 2011 GLVC Softball Touranment championship is slated for noon Sunday.
