BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Southern Indiana volleyball team split a pair of contests to open their season on Friday. The Eagles were swept by California but avenged the loss with a sweep of their own over Lake Superior State. Danielle LaGrange, who notched 10 kills in the loss to California, and Emily Diedrich each posted 13 kills in the win over Lake Superior State.

ST. LOUIS - Missouri-St. Louis was one of only four GLVC teams to finish Friday with an unblemished mark as the Tritons collected a 3-0 win over Wayne Staet and a 3-1 victory against visiting Gannon. Shelby Crawford posted a team-high 14 kills against Wayne State and Weslie Gaff led the Tritons against Gannon with a match-high 14 kills. Crawford and Erin Higgins each also reached double-figures in kills with a 11 apiece.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - In a rare non-conference match between a pair of GLVC teams in a season opener, Drury took down UW-Parkside at the Ferris State Invitational on Friday, 3-1. Drury's Alex Smith finished the match with 21 kills, eight digs and a .432 hitting percentage to lead the Panthers past UWP. The Rangers were led by Addie Kramer who posted 14 kills in the loss. Each team dropped a match with host Ferris State later in the day and will both return to complete the road trip on Saturday.

INDIANAPOLIS - Missouri S&T fell just shy of putting up an impressive sweep at the UIndy Invitational on Friday as the Miners swept Florida Tech and dropped a heartbreaking, five-set decision to Saginaw Valley State later in the day. The Miners cruised to a win over Florida Tech behind 14 kills from Jackie Zellmer. S&T captured the first two games against Saginaw Valley before the Cardinals rallied for the five-game win. In the loss, Erin Bekebrede put up 18 kills to finish the day with a 3.5 kills per game average.

MEMPHIS - At the Christian Brothers Fall Classic on Friday, Bellarmine earned two victories as the Knights took down American International, 3-1, and swept Henderson State, 3-0. In the win over American International, Krista Gibson collected 14 kills and Bailey BeckenbeckCorp paced the offense with 38 assists. Stats from the Henderson State match are not yet available.

JOPLIN, Mo. - First year head coach Jen Constantino posted a pair of victories in her debut for the Lady Hawks. Quincy defeated Newman in the openter at the Missouri Southern State University Tournament, 3-0, and knocked off host Missouri Southern in the second contest, 3-1. In the win over Newman, Taylor Jacobs posted 11 kills and Lyndsay Kooi finished with 38 assists. Jacobs added 11 more kills in the win over Missouri Southern and the Lady Hawks were paced in the second victory by Christine Williams who had 16 kills.

KANSAS CITY - After dropping its season opener to Chadron State on Friday, Rockhurst rallied to split the day with a 3-0 win over Mary. In the 3-1 loss to Chadron State, Maggie McGovern tallied a match-high 18 kills and 13 digs. McGovern also paced the way for the Hawks in the victory over Mary as she posted 12 kills and 13 digs.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - At the St. Mary's Tournament in San Antonio on Friday, UIS battled No. 23 Abilene Christian in the Prairie Stars' season opener but fell in three games. Sam Krilich had seven kills and 10 digs for UIS in the loss. The Prairie Stars fell in their second game as well losing to Tarleton State, 3-1. Krilich again led the way for UIS with 10 kills and 12 digs.

TAMPA - No. 15 Lewis opened the day with a convincing victory over Colorado Christian, but the Flyers were upended by No. 4 Tampa, 3-0, in the nightcap. In the victory over Colorado Christian, Colleen Mitros continued her strong play with a team-high 14 kills. Host Tampa upended the Flyers by limiting Lewis to a .181 hitting percentage. In the loss, Lewis received a team-best nine kills from Mitros.

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Saint Joseph's volleyball team stayed perfect with a pair of victories on Friday. The Pumas swept Notre Dame and McKendree to move to 3-0 on the year. Katherine Brown paced the Pumas in the win over Notre Dame as she notched 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Sharon Freund collected 11 kills and Courtney Bast recorded 15 digs in the win over McKendree.

INDIANAPOLIS - No. 14 Indianapolis dropped a pair of five-game thrillers on Friday at the UIndy Invitational. The Greyhounds opened teh day with a 3-2 loss to No. 19 West Florida. They battled back to tie the match at 2-2 after dropping the first two games, but lost the deciding game 14-12. Kristina Hefferan exploded for 31 kills but it was not enough as the Greyhounds fell to No. 10 Hillsdale in their second contest of the day. UIndy will return to face No. 12 Minnesota-Duluth at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
