USI Wins Men's Tennis Opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team started the 2011-12 campaign with a 9-0 sweep of St. Catharine College Saturday at the USI Tennis Courts. The Screaming Eagles start the season 1-0, while the Patriots fall to 0-1.
 
USI soared out to a commanding start by sweeping the three doubles matches. Junior Juan Quiroz and senior Diego Gimenez at number one doubles and junior Ben Boesing and senior Nathan Lattimer at number two doubles won 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. Juniors Rodrigo Flores and Kory Poland closed out the doubles with an 8-0 shutout at number three doubles.
 
Lattimer and junior Robert Nieters led in singles with straight-set shutouts at number five and six singles, 6-0 and 6-0. Gimenez lost only one game in his straight set win at number three, 6-1 and 6-0.
 
The next action for the Eagles is in the Bradley University Invitational September 16-18, in Peoria, Illinois. USI also is scheduled to play in ITA Midwest Regional, September 23-25, and the Georgetown College Invitational, October 8-9.
