BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Behind 19 kills and 18 digs from Alex Smith, Drury (3-1) opened Saturday with a five-game 3-2 victory over Lake Superior State at the Ferris State Invitational. Smith posted three of the Panthers final six points to rally Drury to a 15-12 decision in the fifth game. Drury capped the day with a 3-0 win over Urbana. Sara Borneman led the Panthers with 14 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Southern Indiana (2-2) split a pair of matches on Saturday to finish the weekend with a 2-2 mark. The Eagles topped Upper Iowa, 3-0, but fell to host Ferris State in their second game of the day, 3-0. Kristy Gerardot posted 12 kills and 11 digs in the win over Upper Iowa, while Danielle LaGrange notched a team-high 13 kills. LaGrange also led the Eagles with 11 kills in the loss to the Bulldogs.

KANSAS CITY – William Jewell (3-1) completed an impressive opening weekend with a split at the Rockhurst Invitational. The Cardinals took down Colorado State-Pueblo in five games before falling to Chadron State in the weekend finale 3-0. Statistics were not immediately available for the CSU-Pueblo contest, but in the loss to Chadron State, Hannah Herndon led William Jewell with 16 kills and Cailynn Hayter finished with 30 assists.

JOPLIN, Mo. – After picking up two wins on Friday, Quincy (2-2) dropped a pair of matches at the Missouri Southern State Tournament on Saturday to finish the weekend with a 2-2 record. The Lady Hawks fell to Central Oklahoma in a hard-fought five games, 3-2, dropping the deciding game 20-18. In the loss, Taylor Jacobs recorded 21 kills and Christine Williams added 20 kills, while Courtney Young led the attack with 59 assists. The Lady Hawks hit just .128 in a 3-0 loss to Harding in their second game with Briann Joslin pacing the team with nine kills.

INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky (2-0) opened its season in impressive fashion on Saturday as the Norse recorded two victories at the UIndy Invitational, including a sweep of No. 19 West Florida. In their opener, the Norse swept regional foe Ashland behind 13 kills and a .579 hitting percentage from Shelby Buschur. In the 3-0 victory over West Florida, setter Jenna Schreiver guided a balanced attack as four Norse players finished with at least seven kills. Schreiver tallied 29 assists, six kills and five digs in the win.

KANSAS CITY – Rockhurst (2-2) closed its invitational with a split on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks fell to Arkansas Tech despite jumping out to a 2-0 advantage. In the loss, Rockhurst received 26 kills and 12 digs from Maggie McGovern. The Hawks rebounded quickly with a convincing 3-1 win over Colorado State-Pueblo. McGovern again led the way with 18 kills, Kareen Schwartze added 11 kills and Leah Grant notched 37 assists.

RENSSELAER, Ind. – Saint Josephs’ (4-1) lost a back-and-forth affair with visiting Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday and the Pumas were unable to close out the match after holding a 2-1 advantage. They were held to a .103 team hitting percentage and Sharon Freund finished with a team-high 11 kills. Courtney Best tallied 36 digs in the loss. Saint Joseph’s earned a 3-1 victory over Cedarville in the nightcap as three players finished with a team-high nine kills. Freund, Katherine Brown and Lisa Parsons all recorded nine kills and  Erin Brocker tallied 33 assists and 12 digs.

ST. LOUIS – After dropping a 3-0 decision to North Alabama on Saturday, Missouri-St. Louis (3-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to visiting Lindenwood to earn a 3-2 victory and finish the day with a split. Shelby Crawford led the Tritons with 16 kills and 21 digs in the victory, while Erin Higgins added 15 kills. Setter Anna  McNulty completed an impressive contest with 56 assists and 16 digs. Higgins and Chelsea Burkle each posted 10 kills in the loss to North Alabama.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UIS (0-4) was unable to pick up its first victory of the season as the Prairie Stars dropped a pair of contests at St. Mary’s Tournament in San Antonio. UIS lost to host St. Mary’s in its first contest of the day, 3-0. The Prairie Stars were forced into 17 attack errors and finished the match with a .092 hitting percentage. In a 3-0 loss to Regis, UIS committed 26 errors to finish with a negative-.128 hitting percentage.

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – UW-Parkside (0-4) was unable to collect its first win of the season on Saturday as the Rangers dropped a pair of matches at the Ferris State Invitational.  The Rangers lost to California (Pa.), 3-0, and were defeated by Upper Iowa in four games, 3-1. Addie Kramer led the Rangers attack in both contests as she finished with seven kills in the match with California and 10 kills in the loss to Upper Iowa.

INDIANAPOLIS – Missouri S&T (2-2) upended regional-foe Ashland on Saturday at the UIndy Invitational, 3-1 but was unable to complete a sweep on the afternoon as the Miners fell to No. 10 Hillsdale, 3-0. In the win over Ashland, Erin Bekebrede tallied a team-high 11 kills and added 11 digs while Jennifer Costello notched 40 assists. Bekebrede matched the 11-kill output in the loss to Hillsdale despite playing one fewer game in the loss.

TAMPA – No. 15 Lewis (3-1) closed out its trip to Tampa with a 3-0 victory over Tiffin on Saturday. In the win, 17 different Flyers saw action, including Colleen Mitros who posted a team-best nine kills in just two games. The Flyers hit .281 and limited the Dragons to a .081 hitting percentage on the day.

INDIANAPOLIS – At the UIndy Invitational, host Indianapolis fell to No. 12 Minnesota-Duluth, 3-1. The Greyhounds (0-3) were led by Kristina Hefferan and Hannah Kelzer in the loss as the duo finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Megan Binkerd guided the offensive effort with 38 assists.
