KANSAS CITY, Mo. - William Jewell broke a four-game losing streak Monday afternoon with a 64-61 victory over Rockhurst in Kansas City. WJC moved to 5-8 overall and 2-5 in conference action behind Nick Larson's 20 points and 12 rebounds and Chris Uz's 18 points. Rockhurst, which fell to 5-10 on the year and 2-5 in GLVC play, was led by James Robinson with 17 points.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The seventh-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team won the first round of the 2011-12 “Battle for the Bridge” with a 72-57 victory over second-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College Monday evening in front of a sellout crowd at the Physical Activities Center. Brandon Hogg and Lawrence Thomas topped the scoring column for USI with 16 points each, while senior forward Isaac McClure rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points. Kenyon Smith dished out a game-high five assists and made three steals. Kentucky Wesleyan was paced by Cardell McFarland with a game-high 21 points. Brandon Johnson and Anthony Young added 12 and 11 points, repsectively. USI rises to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in the GLVC, while KWC goes to 14-1, 6-1 GLVC.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Kyle Gupton scored a career-high 20 points as Illinois Springfield topped Quincy 62-59 Monday at the Recreation and Athletic Center in Springfield. Jermaine Love-Roberts added 15 points for the Prairie Stars while West Dawson chipped in with 10. Quincy was led by Chris Babbitt with 20 points and 11 rebounds as Courtney Belger finished with 16 points and Scott Hahn added 14. Quincy falls to 10-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. UIS, which has now won five of its last seven, moves to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the GLVC, which is good enough for sole possession of second place in the league's West Division.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Behind a boxscore-filled performance by senior forward Lonnie Lawrence, Lewis earned a 76-59 victory over UW-Parkside Monday night at Nei Carey Arena. Lawrence recorded a career-high 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals, four assists and one block to help the Flyers to their third-straight win. Lewis senior point guard Chris McClellan collected a game-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, while senior forward MAtt Toth came off the bench to score 10 points. UW-Parkside senior guard Leneal Harris topped the Rangers with 16 points, while junior forward Conrad Krutwig added 10 points off of the bench. Lewis improved to 11-4 on the campaign and 3-4 in GLVC action, while the visiting Rangers now sit 8-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - One game after struggling to no points and one rebound, senior Wilbur O'Neal carried Indianapolis past in-state rival St. Joseph's, 88-86, in front of 1,341 at Nicoson Hall on Monday night with a career-high 30 points and 10 rebounds. Dayvon Sloan led Saint Joseph's with 21 points and eight assists, while Phillip Collins added 18 points, four rebounds and three steals. UIndy improved to 5-2 in conference play and 12-3 overall, while the Pumas fell to 6-9 on the season and 1-6 in GLVC action.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On paper, the matchup between No. 3 Bellarmine and No. 8 Northern Kentucky looked as if it would be an offensive battle, but instead a defensive struggle ensued with the Knights pulling out a 64-60 victory in front of a sellout Knights Hall crowd in a classic Great Lakes Valley Conference game. Jeremy Kendle led all scorers with 16 points with Chris Dowe chipping in 15. The Norse were led by Jon Van Hoose, who had 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Bellarmine's win, combined with a Kentucky Wesleyan loss, pulls the Knights into a 3-way tie for the lead in the GLVC East. After Monday's action, the Knights, KWC and Southern Indiana all own identical 14-1 overall records and all are 6-1 in league play. The Norse (13-2) slips into a tie for fourth with Indianapolis with a conference mark of 5-2.
