SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- The 2012 SCHEELS GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament top seed held true Thursday evening, with #1 Quincy besting defending tournament champion #8 Lewis 86-72 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
The top-seeded Lady Hawks (21-6) held a 44-29 lead at the half, paced by 11 points from Lucy Cramsey in the first 20 points. Quincy shot a blustering 57 percent in the first frame, and out-rebounded the Flyers (8-20) 15-10 en route to the 15-point halftime advantage.
Lewis pushed within three mid-way through the second half, going on an 18-5 run to make the score 61-58. Following the under-12 media timeout, however, the Lady Hawks pushed the lead back to 83-62 with a 20-2 run that spanned just more than five minutes and iced the win.
Quincy was led by Cramsey's 25 points, while Ali Schwagmeyer added 21 and a team-high nine rebounds. Linsay Henke also put in 13, while Karlee Gengenbacher added 10.
The Flyers were paced by 19 points and nine rebounds from Jess Reinhart, while Jamie Johnson added 17 in the loss.
Top-seeded Quincy advances to play the winner of Thursday's final game, a matchup between #4 Northern Kentucky and #5 Maryville.
