No. 6 Seed INDIANAPOLIS 66, No. 3 Seed Hillsdale 62 - BOX | RECAP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Indianapolis used solid defense and clutch shooting to down No. 20 Hillsdale, 66-62, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament Midwest Regional at Bellarmine's Knights Hall on Saturday afternoon. The sixth-seeded Greyhounds (20-8) won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1996, ending a six-game drought, by downing the third-seeded Chargers (24-6). UIndy now advances to the regional semis on Sunday at 5 p.m. against 18th-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan.
Reece Cheatham led the Greyhounds with 17 points and Leland Brown scored 15, while First Team All-Midwest Region guard Adrian Moss took more of a distributor roll with eight points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals.
The Chargers, who were the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, were led by the First Team All-GLIAC pair of Brad Guinane with 19 points and eight rebounds and Gerber with 14 points.
No. 7 KENTUCKY WESLEYAN 64, No. 2 SOUTHERN INDIANA 58 - BOX | KWC RECAP | USI RECAP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Kentucky Wesleyan fought back from an early 13-point deficit to upset No. 6 ranked Southern Indiana 64-58 in the NCAA Midwest Region Quarterfinals in Louisville on Saturday afternoon. The 18th-ranked Panthers were led by Midwest Region Player of the Year Anthony Young with 18 points and seven rebounds followed by Brandon Johnson with 13 points and Marseilles Stewart with 11.
USI's Brandon Hogg finished the game with a game-high 23 points to lead his final game. Lawrence Thomas was the only other Eagle to reach double-figures, scoring 14 points.
USI, the second-seed in the tournament, ends the season 24-7 overall, while KWC, the seventh seed, goes to 22-7.
No. 1 BELLARMINE 66, No. 8 LEWIS 57 - BOX | BU RECAP | LEWIS RECAP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite holding fourth-ranked Bellarmine to its second-lowest point total of the season, Lewis was unable to overcome a combined 55 points from BU senior forward Luke Sprague and junior guards Jeremy Kendle and Chris Dowe, as the host Knights earned the 66-57 NCAA Midwest Regional victory over the Flyers at Knights Hall on Saturday evening. Sprague, who missed the second half with an injury, scored all 19 of his points in the first half on 7-for-7 shooting, including five 3-pointers. Kendle scored a game-high 23 points, while Dowe finished with 13 points, including an 8-for-10 performance from the free throw line. Lewis freshmen Ryan Jackson and Julian Lewis each scored 11 points to lead the Flyers.
Bellarmine improved to 26-3 and will face Findlay on Sunday. Lewis ends the 2011-12 season with a record of 17-12.
No. 5 Findlay 50, No. 4 NORTHERN KENTUCKY 49 - BOX | RECAP
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ethan Faulkner scored nearly half of Northern Kentucky's total score Saturday night, but the Norse fell to Findlay 50-49 on Saturday in Louisville. Faulkner scored 24 points, but NKU was never able to lead in the game. Jake Heagen led the team with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. The Oilers, who built a 10-0 lead to start the game and never trailed, improved to 24-6 on the year with the win and will now face #4 Bellarmine University tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
