2012 SCHEELS GLVC Tournament Central
SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- The five-seeded Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles bested #4 seed UIndy 78-60 in 2012 SCHEELS GLVC Men's Basketball Championship action Friday at the Prairie Capital Convention Center, taking revenge on a Greyhound sweep of the regular-season series.
At the half, USI (22-6) held a 38-29 advantage, paced by All-GLVC First Teamer Brandon Hogg's 12 points. Fourteen UIndy (19-8) turnovers in the first 20 minutes, turned into 16 Screaming Eagle points bolstered the USI lead.
The Screaming Eagles pushed their lead to 17, punctuated by an Issac McClure steal and dunk with just more than 10 minutes to play. The McClure flush pushed the score to 58-41, prompting a Greyhound timeout.
Southern Indiana continued to pour it on, coming out of the timeout with five more unanswered points to push the advantage to 22.
Hogg's 23 led the Screaming Eagles, with both Lawrence Thomas and Issac McClure adding 13 to the USI total. The Greyhounds were led by a career-high 23 from Leland Brown in the loss.
The Screaming Eagles advance to the semifinal round of the 2012 SCHEELS GLVC Men's Basketball Touranemtn, where they will play top-seeded Bellarmine at 8:30 Saturday night.
