West Division champ UMSL wins first-ever GLVC Tourney game with 71-60 victory over #7 Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- The #2 seeded Missouri-St. Louis Tritons posted their first-ever GLVC Tournament victory Friday, with a 71-60 win over #7 Drury. 

The Panthers (17-11) led at the half, 36-33 behind 15 points from from All-GLVC Second Team selection Brandon Lockhart, who shot 6-of-8 from the floor in the first 20 minutes, aiding Drury's 59 percent clip for the half.

Missouri-St. Louis (19-8) was able to tie the ballgame 38-38 at the 16:29 mark, on a Justin Hightower bucket. The Tritons took the lead about a minute later, on a three-ball from Neil Branham.

After neither team could mount more thand a couple point lead, the Tritons pulled away around the nine-minute mark, taking a 55-47 lead that prompted a Drury timeout.

The Tritons closed out the contest outscoring Drury 16-13 to take the victory. Charlie Woods led UMSL in victory with 20 total points, including 16 points from the charity stripe on 17 attempts. Both the makes and attempts are goodd for new GLVC Touranment single-game records.

In addition to Woods, Hightower had 18 points for UMSL, with Josh McCoy adding 10. The Panthers were paced by Lockhart's 19 points, with First Team All-GLVC honoree Alex Hall chipping in 11 and Ian Carter 10 in the loss.

UMSL advances to the semifinal round of the 2012 SCHEELS GLVC Men's Basketball Tournament for a meeting with the #3 Northern Kentucky Norse Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
