2012 SCHEELS GLVC Tournament Central
SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- In just their first year of GLVC postseason play elgibility, the Maryville Saints won the 2012 SCHEELS GLVC Women's Basketball Championship with a 75-62 win over #7 Kentucky Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.
The game was close though the first half, with Kentucky Wesleyan (17-13) jumping out to the half's largest lead, a seven-point advantage with just more than six minutes to play in the period. At the halftime break, the teams were tied 41-41.
Maryville (19-11) led by as many as 18 in the second half en route to the victory and the GLVC's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Divison II Women's Basketball Championships.
The Saints were paced by All-Tournament team honoree Abby Duethman's 23 points, with Kate Childs adding 16 and both All-Tournament team selections Rita Flynn and Tournament MVP Shelby Miller putting in 10 apiece for the Saints. Duethman also grabbed a game-high 10 boards to complete her double-double effort.
The Lady Panthers were paced by All-Touranment team selection Kristen Rowe's 12 points in the loss, while Karly Rhoads added 10. KWC's Kourtney Rhoads was also selected to the All-Tournament team.
NCAA Division II Regional play begins next week, with the 2012 NCAA Division II selection show slated for 10:00 EST Sunday night on ncaa.com.
