2011-12 ALL-SPORTS TROPHY STANDINGS

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis has claimed the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy for the 2011-12 academic year.  The Greyhounds totaled 167.5 year-end points, which gave them an 11.5-point victory over runner-up Northern Kentucky.  This year’s title is UIndy’s third All-Sports crown in school history and first since 2002-03.

The GLVC All-Sports Trophy is presented to the institution that demonstrates the best all-around performance in the league’s 17 sponsored sports. Points are allocated based on overall finish in the league standings and finish in the respective sport’s conference tournament.

Led by athletics director Dr. Sue Willey, Indianapolis earned a school-record seven GLVC championship titles during the year.  By virtue of the crowns, UIndy collected first-place points in volleyball, men’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, women’s golf, baseball and softball.

Additionally, UIndy also posted strong finishes in men’s basketball and women’s indoor track and field claimed fourth and fifth-place points, respectively.

The 2011-12 marked an impressive turnaround for the Greyhounds after placing fifth in last year’s standings with 130.50 points.

In its last season competing in the GLVC, Northern Kentucky finished second overall with 156.0 points, followed by Bellarmine with 141.0 points.  Lewis University, last year’s GLVC All-Sports Trophy recipient, finished fourth overall with 135.0 points.  Drury University, which shared the 2009-10 trophy with the Norse, rounded out the top five with 129.0 points – a half-point ahead of the University of Southern Indiana.

The All-Sports Trophy was first instituted in the GLVC during the 1981-82 season and seven different institutions have claimed the award.
