YPSILANTI, Mich.- Indianapolis senior Donovan Drake notched his seventh complete game of the season in a 2-0 win versus Lewis in the first round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Thursday. The top-seeded Greyhounds (43-14) are one of six teams competing in the double-elimination bracket, held at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich. Thursday's tourney opener marked the seventh meeting between UIndy and Lewis this season and the second between starters Drake and Pat Lahey (5-6). Lahey went all 8.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Junior Ryan Wides went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and a stolen base, while junior Nick Whitty's fourth-inning double represented the Hounds' only extra-base hit of the day. The Greyhounds are now 5-2 in the season series versus the Flyers. As the No. 1 seed, UIndy faces third-seeded and host Wayne State Friday at 2:30 p.m. WSU lost its first-round match-up with Northern Kentucky and thus need to win Friday to avoid being eliminated.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Max Colaner had three hits and Pat Williams scored a pair of runs to lead the Northern Kentucky University baseball team to a 6-4 victory over Wayne State (Mich.) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament. Brett Wagner (3-0) got the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Brett Loeding closed out the game's final 4.2 innings to earn his 12th save. The junior reliever, having already set the NKU record for appearances in a season, needs six innings of work to surpass Kevin Jordan for NKU's single-season record for innings pitched (108.1 in 2010). NKU (36-20) advances in the winners bracket to play the winner between Grand Valley State and Rockhurst tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Ryan Porter’s three-run home run capped an eight-run second inning to power Rockhurst to a 9-4 victory over ninth-ranked Grand Valley State on the first day of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich. The fifth-seeded Hawks, 33-17, will meet fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m. EDT Friday in the double-elimination regional. Junior shortstop Anthony Davis led the eight-hit Rockhurst attack with a two-run triple in the second and a double in the sixth. Derrick Jones and Patrick Chandler added RBI singles in the second. Caleb Baker drove in the Hawks’ final run with a pinch-hit single in the seventh. Mark Sappington (10-3) went the distance for his fifth complete game of the season. He allowed nine hits and struck out five while throwing 146 pitches.
