GLVC Women's Basketball Ready for Regular Season Tip-Off

Season #35 Tips Off Friday
The 35th season of Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s basketball tips off this Friday with Indianapolis, Missouri S&T, Drury, and Maryville opening their respective 2013-14 campaigns at home.  Defending GLVC Champion Lewis, ranked 18th nationally, begins its title defense on Saturday as the Flyers play host to Saginaw Valley State. Six other games will be contested on Saturday, including Rockhurst opening its first-game of the season on the road at Newman at 2 p.m.  Four games are on the slate Sunday and a total of 10 conference schools will open the season this week.  The five league members not opening their campaigns this week include Bellarmine, Illinois Springfield, Missouri-St. Louis, William Jewell, and Truman State.  The Bulldogs will tip-off with three games next week starting on Monday night when they open the campaign at home against Stephens (Mo.) College at 5:30 p.m.  On Nov. 13, the Knights and Cardinals will open their regular season against Cedarville University and the University of Central Missouri, respectively. The Prairie Stars battles Missouri Western on Nov. 15 in St. Joseph, Mo., and the Tritons hosts Lindenwood on Nov. 16.
 
A Look Back at 2012-13
The 2012-13 GLVC women’s basketball season concluded with Lewis capturing the GLVC crown over GLVC 2012 Champion Maryville with a 76-61 victory.  The Flyers earned their first conference tournament title since the 2010-11 season, and owns five league crowns. 
 
A New Member Brings Winning Tradition
A new conference highlights the beginning of Truman State basketball season.  The Bulldogs joined the Great Lakes Valley Conference this season after being a member of the MIAA since 1982.  Truman State was picked fourth in the West Division of the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 73 points and one first-place vote.
 
Katy McIntosh and Jess Reinhart Recognized by Division II Bulletin
Indianapolis senior guard Katy McIntosh and  Lewis junior forward Jess Reinhart was named in mid-October as a Super 16 Selection by Division II Bulletin, which signifies “player to watch” status.  McIntosh and  Reinhart were two of 16 players to watch after leading their teams to post season play.  McIntosh averaged 16.1 points and 5.2 rebounds last season for the Greyhounds, and was also named to the All-Midwest Region First Team by Daktronics, while Reinhart led the Flyers in scoring with 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.  Both players first-team All-GLVC honors.
 
Indianapolis and Lewis Ranked in WBCA Top 25
Lewis has been ranked No. 18 in the 2013-14 ESPN USA Today Sports Division II Top-25 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Preseason Poll, it was announced on Oct. 29.  The Flyers, who captured the 2012 GLVC title, finished last season in the first-round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament after falling to UW-Parkside 59-49.

Lewis, Quincy Selected to Win GLVC Divisions
Lewis and Quincy were recently selected to win the GLVC East and West Divisions, respectively, for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The annual GLVC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll was voted on by the league coaches and ranks the top-eight teams in each of the conference’s two divisions. The Flyers were followed by Indianapolis and Southern Indiana in the East, while the Hawks paced Maryville and Missouri S&T in the West.
 
Return to Evansville, Ind.
The GLVC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held in Evansville, Ind., at the Ford Center from March 6-9.  This year, the GLVC women’s teams will take the court first followed by the men’s action.  Credential requests will be available beginning in early February, and should be sent Jeff Smith at jeff@glvc-sports.org.
