INDIANAPOLIS – Five Great Lakes Valley Conference men’s and women’s soccer players have earned 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II All-America status after 39 league standouts were named All-Midwest Region, it was announced recently by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).  Three men’s players were named All-Americans after 18 standouts were tabbed All-Region, while two of the 21 regional selections on the women’s side garnered All-America status.

University of Indianapolis junior Ngwese Ebangwese, the 2013 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, was named a first-team All-American at forward, while GLVC Defensive Player of the Year Alec Pickett of Lewis University was honored on the second team after an impressive senior season in goal.  Rockhurst University senior forward Mark Magee was named a third-team selection after leading the Hawks to the NCAA national semifinals on Dec. 5.

Ebangwese, Pickett, and Magee were three of the five men’s honorees named to the 11-player All-Midwest Region first team.  UIndy senior midfielder Roger Lee and Lewis freshman defender Kyle Collins were also included on the first-team list.  GLVC men’s soccer players earned 18 of the total 33 All-Region positions, including seven second-team honorees and six third-team picks.

In addition to being honored by the NSCAA, Magee and Pickett were honored as Daktronics, Inc., All-Americans, as Magee was a second-team selection and Pickett was a third-team honoree.  The pair becomes the GLVC’s only consensus All-Americans for the 2013 season.

On the women’s side, the GLVC’s Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year also gained NSCAA/Continental Tire All-America status.  Quincy University senior goalkeeper Jodi Chapie was a first-team All-American following a season as the league’s top defender, while fellow senior teammate Jaclyn Mastroianni was voted as a second-team honoree at forward.

GLVC players accounted for 21 of the 41 positions on the three All-Region teams, and took up eight of the 13 spots on the first team.  Joining Chapie and Mastroianni on the All-Region first team were two teammates, sophomore Ashley Burton and senior Kristine Vogt, as well as Bellarmine University senior midfielder Lauren Boyd and freshman forward Mary Beth Gorham – the 2013 GLVC Freshman of the Year.  Rockhurst junior defender Kasey Lierz and Truman State University senior forward Trisha Shoemaker were also named to the first team.
