INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference recently earned nine All-America honors at the 2013 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which was held May 23-25 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo. The event was highlighted by two All-America selections for Southern Indiana’s Johnnie Guy – the 2013 GLVC Freshman of the Year.

Guy’s performances helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a total of nine points and a 29th-place finish overall in the 54-team field.  Bellarmine and Indianapolis finished tied for 37th with 5 points each.

Southern Indiana found success in Guy’s seventh-place finish in the 10,000 meters and eighth-place result in the 5,000 meters.  The talented freshman was joined by senior Michael Jordan, who took All-America accolades with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase.  Both USI runners improved on their times in their respective events from the GLVC Outdoor Championship, at which both received First-Team honors.

UIndy’s 400-meter relay team of Joshuah Bass, Jerel Flournoy, Robert Garnder III, and Quinntyn Qualls received All-American honors with a fourth-place finish. The team of two freshmen and two seniors improved from the GLVC Championship with a time of 39.96.

The final day of competition was also good for Bellarmine as two Knights earned All-American accolades in the 1,500 meters.  On the men’s side, juniors Robert Sandlin finished fourth overall, while Angela Musk scored points on the women’s side following an eighth-place finish.

Musk’s performances lead the women’s squad to a 58th-place finish.
