2014 Tournament Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2014 Deaconess GLVC Women’s Basketball Tournament bracket was released by the conference office Thursday evening following the finale of the 2013-14 regular season.  Twelve of the league’s 16 schools advanced to the postseason tournament, with four schools earning first-round byes.  The remaining eight teams will open the conference tournament on campus Sunday with hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals, which take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., March 6-9.

GLVC West Division Champion Drury (24-2, 16-2 GLVC) captured the No. 1 overall seed for the tournament after earning a tiebreak with East Division Champion Lewis (22-4, 16-2) based on an 89-70 home win over the Flyers on Feb. 15.  The Panthers, who were the 12th seed in last year’s event, were given the free pass to Evansville with one of the first-round byes.  Lewis, the 2013 GLVC Champion, also advances to the Ford Center along with No. 3 seed Quincy (21-5, 14-4) and No. 4 Indianapolis (22-7, 13-5).  The Greyhounds earned a tiebreak decision over No. 5 seed Missouri-St. Louis (20-6, 13-5) based on UIndy notching a win at Drury on Jan. 5, while UMSL lost in Springfield, Mo., on Jan. 23.

Missouri-St. Louis will host the first of four opening-round contests this Sunday, hosting No. 12 seed Rockhurst (9-17, 4-14) at 1 p.m. CT.  The Hawks were awarded the last position in the field following a tiebreak over McKendree that centered on Rockhurst’s 65-60 home win over Missouri S&T on Feb. 20, while the Bearcats dropped a 77-74 decision at home to the Lady Miners on Feb. 8.  Earlier this year, Rockhurst went on the road and loss to Missouri-St. Louis 60-57 on Feb. 1.

No. 6 Southern Indiana (18-8, 12-6) will host No. 11 Missouri S&T (9-17, 5-13) on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.  The Screaming Eagles earned a tiebreak over No. 7 Truman State based on their 69-54 road win at Indianapolis, while the Bulldogs fell 87-74 at UIndy on Feb. 13.  In their lone regular season meeting this season, USI scored a 91-62 victory over S&T in Evansville on Jan. 9.

Truman (18-8, 12-6) is set to participate in its first-ever GLVC basketball postseason event when the Bulldogs host No. 10 William Jewell (11-15, 6-12) on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.  The Cardinals lost in their lone meeting with Truman this season, falling 83-75 at home on Jan. 25.  

No. 8 Maryville (17-11, 10-8), which captured the 2012 GLVC Championship in its first-ever try, returns to the postseason for the third straight year and will host No. 9 Bellarmine (13-13, 9-9) on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT in St. Louis, Mo.  Just two weeks ago on Feb. 15, the Knights defended their home court by besting Maryville 82-81 in Louisville, Ky.

Following Sunday’s four first-round contests, the winners will be reseeded Nos. 5-8 and placed accordingly against the tournament’s top four seeds.

Tickets for the 2014 Deaconess GLVC Basketball Championship Tournament are now on sale through ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000, or through the Ford Center box office at (812) 422-1515.  All-Tournament passes are $35, while Session Flex Passes are $25, allowing you access to any two of the first six sessions, excluding Sunday’s finals.  Single-session tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students with a valid ID, while children aged six and under are admitted free of charge.
