2013-14 GLVC All-Sports Trophy Standings/Breakdown

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis has earned its third consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy, the league office announced Monday.  The Greyhounds totaled 198.0 points for the 2013-14 academic year, more than 30 points ahead of their winning total from last season. 

UIndy earned its sixth All-Sports Trophy in program history by 16.5 points over Lewis University.  The Greyhounds have now captured the GLVC All-Sports Trophy in the 1978-79, 1994-95, 2002-03, 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2013-14 seasons.

The GLVC All-Sports Trophy is presented to the institution that demonstrates the best all-around performance in the league’s 20 sponsored sports. Points are allocated based on overall finish in the league standings and finish in the respective sport’s conference tournament.

Led by Dr. Sue Willey, the school’s Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, Indianapolis captured four GLVC Championships this season to earn first-place points in football, volleyball, men’s golf and women’s golf.  Additionally, the Hounds also posted runner-up finishes in men’s soccer, men’s swimming and diving, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field, and men’s tennis, and garnered third-place points in the sports of women’s swimming and diving and softball.

Winners of a GLVC-record 13 All-Sports Trophies, Lewis finished runner-up for the second straight season with 181.5 points, highlighted by conference titles in men’s indoor and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.  Drury University (155.0) placed third with a league-high five GLVC Championships this season in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, and baseball.

The University of Southern Indiana (148.75) and Bellarmine University (138.5) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while newcomer Truman State University (132.5) placed sixth overall in its first season competing in the GLVC.  The University of Missouri-St. Louis (115.0) and Rockhurst University (100.0) were the other two teams to eclipse the 100-point mark this year, placing seventh and eighth.  McKendree University (91.0) and Missouri S&T (87.25) finished in the top 10, while Quincy University (86.0), University of Wisconsin-Parkside (85.5), William Jewell College (82.5), Maryville University (76.0), Saint Joseph’s College (61.0) and University of Illinois Springfield (57.5) rounded out the field.

The All-Sports Trophy was first instituted in the GLVC during the 1978-79 season and seven different institutions have claimed the award.
