INDIANAPOLIS – It was announced Wednesday (Dec. 2) that the Great Lakes Valley Conference has earned 23 selections from eight schools on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II All-Midwest Region Teams, including eight first-team choices, seven second-team picks and eight third-team honorees.
Bellarmine University led the way with four first-team selections and added a fifth honoree on the Third Team. Sophomore Taylor Smith was named the first-team goalkeeper and joining the group from her backline was senior Jordan Major, along with junior midfielder Lauren Holder and GLVC Offensive Player of the Year Mary Beth Gorham. The Knights’ third teamer was junior midfielder Sydney Kraus.
Truman State University and Quincy University both earned for nods, including two each on the first team and one apiece on both the Second and Third team.
GLVC Defensive Player of the Year Jessica Hanson was one of Truman’s first-team nominees, while senior midfielder Alexis Heffernan was the other. The second-team Bulldog was junior forward Stephanie Williams and TSU’s third-team member was junior midfielder Megan Whitehead.
For Quincy, senior midfielder Ashley Burton and GLVC Freshman of the Year Abby Pulliam made the first-team cut, while Allison Birke was put on the Second Team and senior midfielder Haylye Markway gleaned a third-team accolade.
With three total selections, Drury University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis earned nominations. Drury had two second teamers and one third-team vote, while UMSL earned a single spot on the Second Team and two more were voted as third-team performers.
A trio of Panther seniors were honored via second-team picks defender Paige Westbrook and midfielder Ciara O’Brien, while forward Emily Cline was on the Third Team.
The Tritons’ second teamer was junior forward Miriam Taylor, while both senior defender Mary Hoffman and junior forward Kayla Delgado gleaned third-team recognition.
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside earned a second-team nod for junior midfielder Jillian Hetfleisch, and Lewis University also picked up a second-team selection in senior forward Maggie Moran.
Rounding out the league representation are two final third-team honorees: Rockhurst University junior midfielder Courtney Silberberg and Maryville senior defender Amanda Wiechens.
