Despite four Prairie Stars scoring in double figures, including Shelbi Patterson's 18 and Syerra Cunningham's 11-point, 19-rebound double-double, Illinois Springfield came up just shy of a huge upset over No. 5 Bellarmine. The Knights were able to pull out the three-point win behind Sarah Galvin's double-double (13 pts, 15 rebs). The other two top-25 GLVC teams earned wins with a bit more ease, as Lewis topped Saint Joseph's 74-65 and Drury beat Missouri-St. Louis 72-58. Of note however, was the Pumas hot start with a 21-13 lead after the first period against the Flyers and UMSL's 18-17 advantage in the third quarter vs. Drury. Lewis' Jessica Kelliher eclipsed 30 points, scoring 31 in the win. Along with Bellarmine, Southern Indiana and Indianapolis earned road wins.

No. 5 Bellarmine, No. 14 Drury and No. 18 Lewis all picked up wins again to start GLVC play 2-0. With the wins, Bellarmine and Lewis extend their win streaks to eight and seven, respectively. Others beginning the Conference slate undefeated include Southern Indiana, Rockhurst and William Jewell after each recording wins today. Indianapolis, Saint Joseph's, Missouri S&T and Missouri-St. Louis split the opening league weekend at 1-1. Three players scored 20 or more points Saturday afternoon, including USI's Kaydie Grooms' 22 in an 89-62 road win at Illinois Springfield.
